Rocky Dawuni named UN Foundation Ambassador

The United Foundation Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves has named Mr Rocky Dawuni, a Ghanaian musician as a member of the Alliance Ambassador including Julia Roberts, the Academy award-winning actor, and Chef Jose Andres.

The Alliance made the announcement during its two-year anniversary toward accomplishing its mission to create a global market for clean, safe, and efficient cooking technologies.

This was contained in a press release issued from the office of the Alliance and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

Mr Dawuni said he knows how to use his voice and heart to connect with people and that when he learned that cooking kills two million worldwide, he knew he had to speak out to help raise awareness.

“In my native Ghana, throughout Africa and around the World, it is clear that the time for clean cookstoves and fuel is now and I am ready to do my part to assist the Alliance in reaching its goals” he added.

Mr Radha Muthiah, Executive Director for the Alliance noted that Mr Dawuni lifetime pursuits of social justice and gender equality made him a true asset as an Alliance Ambassador.

The Alliance also released its second-year report, which detailed progress in the areas of market development, research, outreach, standards, and testing.
Presents at the event were leaders from civil society organisations, the private sector, and the philanthropic community as well as research pioneers and government representatives.

The release said the representatives came together during the UN General Assembly to discuss the multiple facets of the household air pollution issue which impacts three billion people daily.

The Alliance is a public-private partnership led by the UN Foundation to save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women and combat climate change by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions.
